Early Intervention and School Age

Early Intervention and School Age

OTS: AAAS therapists work closely with children in our clinic, at childcare centres, at schools and home. While in the various environments we are able to evaluate the child’s ability and current level of function, make recommendations, provide ongoing therapy, assist to modify classroom equipment, and help children participate as fully as possible in their lives.

OTS: AAAS therapists may work with children individually, lead small groups in the classroom, or consult with a teacher. Early intervention therapy services are provided to infants and toddlers who have or are at the risk of having developmental delays. Specific therapies may include sensory motor integration (using our clinic’s state of the art sensory gym), facilitating the use of the hands, promoting skills for listening and following directions, fostering social skill development, or teaching dressing and grooming skills.

As a parent, it is natural to worry about your child’s development. You may find yourself asking questions such as:

Why isn’t my child talking more at their age?

How can I help my child have the best start at kinder or school?

Should my child be doing more for themselves at their age?

OTS:AAAS therapists help you to find the answers to your questions and support your child’s development. Our therapists work closely with your family to provide tailored support, as much or as little as you need.

We use approaches that are known to work and use your child’s interests, strengths, and everyday routines to build their skills and independence. As parents, you’ll be supported so you can help your child to develop their skills in everyday life.

Our early intervention approach aims to help your child to learn and be more involved in activities through:

  • develop self-care skills such as getting dressed, feeding themselves, toileting
  • interacting with others and making friends
  • developing their communication skills
  • assistive technology and equipment to make tasks easier for your child.
